It can be pretty lively at times, but not out of line.

At the Chapels (Calvary Chapel) there's a little less open space on Sundays, but there are still usually about 6 songs and time to really open up to God. I'd place it somewhere in between the last two churches mention. ;-)

One really amazing experience we had was doing worship in a huge Catholic cathedral in Augsburg working with Night Fever, a youth outreach. "Missionaries" (which are catholic kids on fire for Jesus) go out and give people candles on the street and invite people to come into the church, light it in front of the altar and just spend time with God. They can receive counseling, confession, prayer, or just sit and enjoy God's pressence. The few times that we did worship for Night Fever have been so amazing...it's really quiet, intimate worship that echos in the huge church buildings, everything is very reverant and you can totally sense God's pressence and holiness. A leader usually prays in between, prophesies, encourages, but the worship continues for about 4 hours on end in the church and the bands quietly tag team it along in hour blocks. The church was always PACKED- tons of people came in with their candles from the streets - revival - and really amazing.

In the Lutheran church where I recently played the "worship" was more like a sing-a-long concert, but I have experienced radically different things in Lutheran state churches when I have worked with the youth - it totally depends on the pastor or leaders. This particular experience was a bit disappointing for both sides.
In Altensteig there is a pretty famous charismatic church. There they had the youth doing the music (really gifted kids!) while one of the elders stood up front and guided things spiritually, listening for guidance by the Holy Spirit. The kids had to be really sensitive to this and they did a great job, I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the worship in Altensteig. I think this is a great way to train up worship leaders spiritually or also a way to utilize musicians who don't feel comfortable leading a worship time spiritually.

One final experience (for today that is) was in a BFP (Assemblies of God I believe this is in English). They had a single guitarist, a woman who had a great voice. Her voice was very powerful and her worship was easy to follow for this reason, she often encouraged and prayed in between in a very loud, but not over-imposing voice. That and the sermon were very blessed. The worship was simple, but good because of her authority based in her calling to her ministry.

I'm sure these single experiences can't determine what all churches of these types are like, but you can learn a lot from other churches. What I have experienced is that as long as the people are in love with Jesus there isn't much difference when it really comes down to it.

Also, zurück zum Text...

Was sehe ich überhaupt in ihnen?

Cheerio, euer Eddy

Israel Trip

If any of you are interested in what happened on our Israel Trip-quite the adventure...I am in the process of putting our travel diary onto my other blog: http://hannahs-philosophies.blogspot.com ...I've got the first half in and the rest and photos coming hopefully soon!
Han

Here goes:

Forgive us if we say
We want to take you in our arms
Sad Father, weeping God
Breathless with the storms
Of anger - of compassion
Fists clenched hard around your grief
Around the marks
The cost
The proof
How can you give us up?
How can you hand us over?
Of course you never can
Never would
Never will
Burdened with perfection and with a passion
Lay your head down
Let us hold you for a while
We will try to be to you
What you have been to us so many times
Peace, Lord, be a child once again
Do you remember Mary's arms?
So warm
So different
Rest quietly and soon you will be strong enough
To be a lion thundering from way beyond the east
We will come trembling from the west
We promise you
Like birds
Like doves
Like children who have suddenly remembered
Who taught them how to laugh
But just for now
Forgive us if we say
We want to take you in our arms
Sad father, weeping God

Copyright by Adrian Plass

Was denkt Ihr dazu?

Euer
Eddy

eddyquette@gmail.com

Insecurities and Distractions

You know..lots of worship leaders (and musicians for that matter in general) have a certain area of their musical ability that they are really insecure about. With me it's rythym...for others maybe it's their voice or maybe certain types of chords, whatever...maybe it's even a spiritual issue. The worst thing about this particular area of insecurity (whatever it is) is that the enemy tries to get you right there when God's using you the most. I had a worship leader tell me that she had the most amazing and fun time of leading worship and right after she was done someone who wasn't even on the worship team made a beeline towards her and criticized this point on her playing...she was totally discouraged. I feel like there are two sides of the coin when it comes to leading worship. On the one hand you have the leader (that's us)...we have to work on our talents to increase, improve them...and try to be good enough on our instruments that we shine as best we can...doing as much as we can from our side not to distract people while they worship. However, there are some people sitting in worship who will be distracted no matter how great we do it. Be it their own musical frustration...or a spiritual issue they are dealing with or even just straight out spiritual attack. ..they too have a responsibility to fight the distraction instead of blaming it always on the one sitting up in front. For us musicians with great pitch and feels for rythym or harmony, we will always be distracted if we let ourselves be...through someone singing a weird harmony, missing a beat, too much high end on the guitar or whatever...if God provides the opportunity, sure, we can help others get better...but even more important is to learn to tune out the mistakes and even the music itself sometimes and to move on into worship...think about what I'm singing, even more...who I'm singing to. Boy, it is so hard, but God help us!!!

E-chords.com

Just got a great tip for guitar learners...the website has great guitar tips and has lots of worship songs..it's called www.e-chords.com. Lothar Kosse.

Was sagst Du/sagt Ihr???

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://worship-leaders.blogspot.com/2005/12/lothar-kosse-konzert-24-november-mein.html' title='Lothar Kosse Konzert 24. However, there are times when God tells you to keep on going and not give up. When I first helped plant a church in Munich I felt that way all the time. We had a church of 10-15 people and most of them were very immature spiritually. They hadn't realized what worship was all about. I often got compliments at that time in regards to my music. Funny enough, that was a really bad sign. Most of the people saw it as the weekly "Hannah Concert" and eventually they got tired of me and started coming late just to hear the sermon. Their focus was wrong, and God showed me (and my pastor) to keep on worshipping being an example and eventually it would click. The people started to grow in their knowledge of the Lord and eventually one by one it clicked what worship was. I really believe that a church that knows their God can't but help to worship...so we can't give up...worship is a lifestyle. Being a worship leader means living a lifestyle of worship. In Heidelberg we have it good...you play one note and they enter in, but there are still times we have to be faithful till God moves.

Divine Inspiration

You know what is really cool...when God shows you to play a song someone else had on their heart too...it's always a cool confirmation of the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Worship Seminar was Great

We just completed the first pilot session of the worship seminar. So, this weekend we'll be having the first worship leading seminar (led mainly by my fabulous fellow worshipper and conspiratrice-in-Christ Hannah) and I'm really excited to see how it goes. All of us behind the project (Han, Di, me) have been wanting this to happen for so long! Presumably, most of you reading this will have attended the seminar. Yay for you! My question for you and anyone else interested in future seminars on worship leading would be; what would be the things you would like to learn most? If you were at the seminar, were those areas covered? What do you think are the things worship leaders of today need the most training in?
